Insomnia

"In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

~ Psalm 4:8

INSOMNIA

PTSD and Insomnia

PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It’s usually caused by the involvement in or exposure to a traumatic event. Veterans who return from war with PTSD almost always suffer from insomnia due to living in a constant state of hyper-vigilance.

In a normal situation, the brain will switch the body from “survival mode” to a state of restoration, but PTSD leaves the survivor in a constant state of fight-or-flight.  This state of heightened stress and anxiety causes insomnia.  Finding ways to deal with insomnia caused by PTSD after a Traumatic experience is critical to the healing process.

At Ahava, we treat insomnia using our holistic approach to therapy by helping to eliminate the stressors from the body as well as the mind.  We then teach healthy coping mechanism and relaxation techniques to help our participants begin to have normal sleep patterns.  Normal sleep patterns restore lost energy reserves that often manifest as lethargy, depression and inappropriate anger.
